Day 16- Thursday 23 June, written 27 June

Thursday, Thursday, is a bit difficult to remember the specifics of, but I do know a fair bit of the day was caught in logistics, having to go to an art history conference for class, then going to the gare to sort out tickets, then to the apartment for lunch, then back to the conference because I had to go to talks in English because the French people spoke too quickly, then quick-walked over to Cafe Procope, where we all had coffee, a thing of tiramisu, a muffin-thing, and a piece of chocolate:
And discussed our reading for a while, and each others' lives, then went back to Reid Hall for more discussion, then a group of us went up to Belleville, near Bassin de la Villette were I'd gone the just the other day, for an aperitif [drink, or in my case, orange juice] together, watching people and talking in an abrasive mix of American and Franglais, then dinner at an All-Asian place that was good, then off our separate ways. Logistics.

Weird things about France: There are certain amounts of nudity in public, and it isn't a big deal, it just wouldn't happen in America, for example, a nearby gallery-cinema on the street with floor-to-ceiling windows has them covered in the work of the filmmaker they're currently interested, nude self-portraits. This also extends to movies, every French movie I've seen has naked people at unexpected intervals, even the most banal historical docu-dramas, it's just different.
